The free Miro alternative — no signup, no per-seat pricing

cnvs.app is a deliberately minimal Miro alternative: open a URL, share it with anyone, draw and write together in real time. No accounts, no team setup, no paywall when the team grows. Built-in Mermaid diagrams and a public MCP endpoint so Claude or GPT can collaborate on the same live board.

When to pick which

Pick Miro when

You're running an organised workshop, retrospective or PI planning session for a team that already pays Miro. You need templates, sticky-note voting, timers, breakout rooms, Jira sync, SSO, audit logs. The price-per-seat is acceptable because the facilitation features pay for themselves.

Pick cnvs.app when

You're on a call with one or three people and want to sketch something on a shared surface in 5 seconds. You don't want anyone to have to sign up, log in, or wait for a corporate SSO redirect. You don't need templates — you just need a blank canvas and a link to share.

One thing Miro doesn't have: an open AI protocol

cnvs.app ships a public Model Context Protocol endpoint at https://cnvs.app/mcp. Add it once to Claude Desktop / Claude Code / Cline / Goose and the AI can read and edit any board you point it at — live, alongside human collaborators. Miro has Miro AI, but it's a paid feature locked inside Miro's own clients; there's no equivalent open endpoint that any MCP-capable agent can talk to.

FAQ

Is cnvs.app really a free Miro alternative, or freemium?

Free forever, not freemium. The core collaborative whiteboard — unlimited boards, real-time sync, image and URL paste, PDF export, dark mode, mobile, MCP — is included at $0. There is no upsell page; there isn't even a signup page.

Does cnvs.app have Miro-style templates?

No. Templates are out of scope by design — they add UI weight that gets in the way of the "open a URL and draw" flow. If your work needs templates, Miro is the better pick.

Can I import a Miro board into cnvs.app?

Not directly. Miro's export formats are JSON/CSV/PDF/image; cnvs.app accepts pasted images and URLs. You can export a Miro board to PNG and paste it onto cnvs.app as a background reference.

How long do cnvs.app boards stay around?

30 days of inactivity. After that the content is permanently purged and the ID is released. Details on retention.
